Horizontal Frame Tube

Horizontal Frame Tube

The horizontal frame tube is a critical upper locking component in Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) systems. Installed as a pair, these bars play a key structural role in ensuring the container meets UN requirements for stacking, drop, and vibration performance.

Description

Structural Function

Positioned at the top section of the IBC cage, the horizontal frame tubes act as a final locking mechanism that secures the entire structure.

Their main functions include:

Reinforcing the overall rigidity of the steel cage

Securing the inner plastic tank in position

Enabling the IBC to pass UN stacking, drop, and vibration tests

Maintaining structural stability during transport and storage

Precision Manufacturing Process

The production of IBC steel tie bars involves a multi-stage automated process to ensure strength, accuracy, and consistency:

Material Preparation – Starts with galvanized steel coil

Die Cutting – Forms the initial flat profile

Tube Forming & Welding – Shaped into a tubular structure with a welded seam

Bending – Achieves the required structural profile

Stamping & Punching – Creates hook-shaped ends and precise mounting holes

This process ensures each tie bar meets strict dimensional and mechanical requirements.

Assembly and Installation

The horizontal frame tubes are installed during the final stage of IBC assembly, after the inner plastic tote is placed the steel cage.

Key installation details:

Each bar measures 970 mm in length

Two bars are installed across the top middle section

Bars are threaded through two upper rims of the inner tank

Hooked ends securely lock onto the P-shaped top horizontal frame tube

Once installed:

The bars lock through four vertical pipes and the top frame

External reinforcement is provided by four tie-bar brackets (39 mm × 37 mm)

These brackets secure the internal bars from outside the frame

This combined internal and external locking system ensures maximum structural integrity.

Material and Strength

The tie bars are manufactured using 1.0 mm thick steel, providing excellent strength while maintaining manageable weight.

Performance characteristics:

Designed to withstand stacking of up to four empty IBC containers

High resistance to deformation under load

Durable enough for repeated industrial use

Corrosion Protection

Given that IBC containers are often used in outdoor and chemical environments, corrosion resistance is essential.

To ensure long-term durability:

The steel is coated with ≥80 g/m² zinc (galvanization)

This coating provides a proven barrier against rust and corrosion

Maintains structural integrity even in harsh conditions
