The 6-inch DN150 cap is the standard, multipurpose lid for the main filling opening. The solid blind cap is the preferred choice offering safety, integrity, and regulatory compliance. It is the go-to cap for everyday use.
A solid cap provides a 100% seal, complete contain and spill-free. Recommended for products like paints or adhesives, because it seals out oxygen to prevent the forming of a solid layer at the liquid top. It is also recommended for odor control, containing unpleasant odors within the tote. Lastly, the IBC screw cap has a flat surface top, which is more ideal for stacking.
The manufacturing process involves plastic injection molding using the same High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) as the tote tank. HDPE is resistant to a wide range of chemicals, acids, and alkalis, it is suitable for storing many industrial and chemical liquid. HDPE is durable and robust. Its high impact strength and stiffness allows the IBC to withstand rigorous conditions during transport. HDPE can be manufactured to comply with the FDA. It is safe to store and transport food products such as potable water and pharmaceuticals. HDPE can resist damage from sunlight with added UV stabilizers, it is highly recommended and important for totes exposed to long periods of sun exposure. Trough the creation of reconditioned or new products from used materials, HDPE is a recyclable plastic, this contributes to organizations sustainability goals. The IBC screw cap is installed with an O-ring gasket for seal-off. TPE, EPDM, or FKM are the three most common options.
TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer)
It is the flexible choice for non-aggressive chemicals. The material is a thermoplastic, unlike EPDM and FKM is a thermoset rubber. It is recommended for water, mild detergents, and food products.
Pros:
It remains flexible in cold temperatures.
It provides a very tight, compression seal.
Thermoplastic is recyclable.
Cons:
When contacted with oils, solvents, and hydrocarbons like fuels and greases, TPE swells or degrades.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)
This material suits polar fluid like water acids, it is bad for oil. The material is synthetic rubber.
Pros:
It suits acetates, alcohols, acids, and alkalis. It is best for acids, caustic solutions, alcohol-based products, and potable water. If you are storing cleaning chemicals like wine and beer, EPDM is the choice.
It is weather & ozone resistant which is very good for outdoor storage.
It is steam resistance which means it handles high-temperature water and steam well.
Cons:
EPDM will swell and dissolve if it comes into contact with mineral oils, fuels, grease, or most hydrocarbons. It is completely incompatible with petroleum-based products.
FKM (Fluoroelastomer or brand Viton®)
FKM is a fluorinated synthetic rubber. Chemours owns the brand Viton.
Pros:
It is good with fuels, oils, solvents, pesticides, and aggressive chemicals. It is recommended for products like paint thinner or hydrocarbon-based fluid.
It has high-tendurance, which is excellent under high temperatures and aggressive chemical attack.
It has low permeability, which means gasses and fluids have a hard time permeating through it.
Cons:
It is significantly more expensive than TPE and EPDM.
It has poor ketone and acid resistance, this means ironically while it handles oil well, it can be attacked by some of the things EPDM handles well, like certain polar solvents (acetates) and strong acids.
It is not for steam and water, so not ideal for hot water applications.
